Netflix FYC
Netflix’s “For Your Consideration” campaigns promote their original titles in preparation for multiple awards seasons each year. As a part of Base Nine Studios, we coordinated with Netflix’s Awards team in 2018, 2019, and 2020 to create the main FYC hub website containing all nominated titles each season, as well as landing pages highlighting individual titles’ recognized fields of excellence.

The Brief
The Awards team at Netflix works year-round to get as many eyes as possible on their shows, films, documentaries, specials, etc., referred to collectively as simply “titles.” These “For Your Consideration” (FYC) campaigns coincide with key times of each year, in hopes the titles will be nominated for awards by various guilds.
Under the direction of Base Nine Studios, my role included concepting pixel-perfect mockups of the main FYC page, which would serve as a hub to display all nominated titles, grouped into various categories.
Additionally, I built discrete landing pages that branched off from the FYC page for a select amount of titles. Each landing page served as a showcase for a specific title, its nominations, and featured media.
Landing Pages
To ensure consistency between the landing pages, I built a lightweight HTML/CSS structure that would be easily repeatable. With the bones in place, I collected and adapted the necessary media assets for all titles. These included title treatments, key art, video, music, photos, and scripts.
For the key art, while I was occasionally given simple JPGs, more often than not I was given hefty Photoshop files—as much as eleven gigabytes! These usually included other unwanted elements that prevented me from quickly exporting out a flattened JPG. I waded through layers and delved into Smart Objects nested within Smart Objects to recover the original key art. Occasionally, a piece of key art would include a distracting background element, so additional masking and background replacement was needed before I could export the art to a more manageable size.
Image quality, resolution, and file size were always at the forefront of my mind while working. I optimized my process by exporting assets in multiple resolutions, with a large version for the landing page, and a small version reserved for the limited real estate of each section of the FYC hub.

FYC Hub
For the 2020 iteration of the Netflix’s FYC hub (as seen below), my role included the creation of the background art for the sections that would expand when clicking on a title’s thumbnail. Each title also needed a “lock-up” graphic that contained the title treatment and nomination count. Previously, in 2018 and 2019, with the art direction of Jonathan Soper at Base Nine Studios, I created various pixel-perfect mockups for the FYC hub that featured additional media types, such as video and photo galleries.
